For first-time axe-throwers, there can be a lot of questions. In today’s blog post, JD’s Hideaway answers some of the most common questions about axe throwing.

What is Axe-Throwing?

It’s a pretty dramatic upgrade from throwing darts. But the rules are similar. The thrower stands behind the foul line, about 12 feet away from the marked board, and tries to throw the axe as close to the bullseye as possible.

The closer the axe is to the bullseye, the more points you earn. Depending on the size of your group, one session can last two and a half to three hours.

Axe throwing is just one of the fun games JD’s offers. Want to take a break from axe throwing or try something different? JD’s Hideaway also offers a digital golf simulator, shuffleboard, and mini-golf (services vary by location).

Is Axe Throwing Fun?

What’s more fun than great food, camaraderie, and beer on tap while throwing sharp metal objects at wooden boards? In short, yes, axe throwing is very fun and growing in popularity across the country.

It’s also a fun way to get a bit of exercise and engage the shoulders and core muscles. It’s pretty satisfying to hear a firm “thud” when an axe hits the wooden bullseye. It’s also great bonding for co-workers and friends.

Is Axe Throwing Dangerous?

Anytime you’re actively drinking around axes, things can get dicey — sure. But axe-throwing bars like JD’s Hideaway are quite safe. Each lane is set up to give the players enough throwing room to be safe.

Even while sober, it can sometimes be a danger if you or someone else happens to be uncoordinated and unknowledgeable about how to safely throw an axe.

Do You Offer Axe Throwing Help?

Lucky for you, JD’s Hideaway can show you the ins and outs of axe throwing. Anytime you come by, there’s always a seasoned axe thrower on staff who is willing and able to show you how to throw.

Is there an Age Requirement for Axe Throwing?

Unfortunately, you do have to be 18 years of age or older to attend. All kids under the age of 17 need to be accompanied by an adult in the throwing lane. Children 8 and under cannot throw axes.
